Yercaud is located at an altitude of about 4,970 feet above sea level. Make sure you grab a pair of woollens if you plan your visit in winter. The best time to visit Yercaud is during summer months from May to June to beat the Chennai heat. The temperature ranges from 16 to 30 degrees and thus can be pleasant weather for a perfect romance with nature. When the monsoon subsides, autumn is bound to have a wonderful, lovely beginning but carry your jackets along as the nights can get cold.
How to reach Yercaud from Chennai
Yercaud is located amidst the scenic Shevaroy Hills nestled in between lust greeny vegetation of the Ghats. The distance from Chennai to Yercaud is roughly around 350 to 380 km depending on the route of travel. The route can be accessed through both rail and road but the road is the most recommended one. You can take the following routes to reach, however.
The route via Krishnagiri is more preferred as it gives maximum opportunity for sightseeing and is a comfortable journey if you are riding a bike. The 4 lane road makes it a smooth ride along the eastern ghats. On hitting the NH make sure you fuel yourself with a good meal as there are a lot of local eateries along the highway. Your Final Destination is Yercaud which is about 30 km from Salem through the curvy mountain roads and damp, cool air. Yercaud rests silently surrounded by silver oaks and pepper vines and goes by the local name Yer-Cadu. Although it was a remote tribal destination earlier, it has been developed into a hilly attraction of the British Era who introduces the famed Arabica Coffee plantations along with citrus fruits too in the area.
